Some 55
years ago, an ex World War II army truck made its appearance as a fire
fighting tanker with numerous volunteer brigades across Australia.
No two were the same, as local communities welded, fitted and painted this rugged “BLITZ” into a fire fighter.
A detailed, diecast collector’s piece in a magnificent display case Top Gear,
makers of the TRAX and TRUX brands of collectible Aussie model cars and
trucks, has created this commemorative 1 to 50 scale diecast model of
the BLITZ as a tribute to Australia’s volunteer fire fighting brigades.
‘The Blitz tackles the blaze’
shows the tanker in action at a bushfire hot spot with two hand painted
volunteer fire fighter figures (no uniforms or protective clothing in
those days) in attendance.
How primitive the whole scene seems in comparison to today’s equipment, but that’s how it was in the 1950s.
